Student Groups
Student organizations are permitted to use the WVU trademarks as approved by the WVU Office of Brand and Trademark Licensing to promote their student organization through student organization websites, on licensed apparel, in advertising, etc.
Student groups that are not registered with WVU Student Organizations must be recognized by a WVU school, college, department, unit or an official academic program to be permitted use of the WVU trademarks.
A WVU authorized licensee needs to be used.

Royalties
Apparel and promotional products ordered by WVU departments, student organizations and club sports are subject to the applicable royalty rate. The standard royalty rate is 13%. Royalty exemptions are taken into consideration regarding employee or student uniforms, uniforms for competition and promotional products that do not impact the retail marketplace.
WVU Branding Guidelines for Apparel and Promotional Product:
Student Organizations
- Must use a WVU licensed company.
- Product color should be gold, navy, white or gray.
- Front must have WVU branding plus student organization name. WVU branding should be in Helvetica Neue font and may consist of the Flying WV, “West Virginia University”, “WVU”, “Mountaineer”, or “Mountaineers”. Verbiage should be placed below the Flying WV or to the right of the logo.
- Initials may be used for nationally recognized student organizations.
- If the student organization does not want to include their student organization name, the design must meet the guidelines for schools, colleges and departments.
- Back may include a creative design that meets branding standards.
- All graphics and creative elements must be placed on the back of the shirt. Graphics should be positive in nature and cast a good light on WVU. No inappropriate language or references to drugs, alcohol, gambling or firearms are permitted.
- If a student organization is hosting an outreach, camp or recruitment event, they should follow the guidelines for Camps, Outreach, or Recruitment Events.
- If you are not a recognized student organization, you must provide the Brand and Trademark Licensing office the name and email of your WVU advisor.
- If your product features co-branding or sponsorship, please see the Co-Branding and Sponsorship section at the bottom of the page.
- Design cannot use trademarks from other entities or derivatives of those marks.
- Contract printing is not permitted (blank products that are taken to a licensee to be embellished using WVU marks).

Greek Organizations
- Must use a WVU licensed company and a Greek licensed company.
- Product color should be gold, navy, white, gray or national chapter colors.
- Other than gold, navy, white or gray, product colors for chapter specific
events may use an alternate color that is the national organization color, falls
within the color family of the WVU brand colors or the alternate color palette.
When using an alternate color, the color must be approved by the WVU Brand and
Trademark Licensing office and the Center for Fraternal Values and Leadership.
- WVU marks should appear in white, navy or black if an alternate color is used.
- Front should have the WVU branding plus the Greek organization’s name.
- WVU branding should be in Helvetica Neue font and may consist of the Flying WV, “West Virginia University”, “WVU”, “Mountaineer”, or “Mountaineers”.
- Back may include a creative design that meets branding standards.
- All graphics and creative elements must be placed on the back of the shirt. Graphics should be positive in nature and cast a good light on WVU. No inappropriate language or references to drugs, alcohol, gambling or firearms are permitted.
- All final designs must be approved by WVU Brand and Trademark Licensing and the Center for Fraternal Values and Leadership.

Club Sports
- Must use a WVU licensed company.
- Product color should be gold, navy, white or gray.
- Front should have WVU branding plus club sport name. Jerseys do not need to have the club sport name.
- WVU branding should be in Helvetica Neue font and may consist of the Flying WV,
“West Virginia University”, “WVU”, “Mountaineer”, or “Mountaineers”. Verbiage
should be placed below the Flying WV or to the right of the logo. Helvetica Neue
typographical emphasis such as all capitalization, bold, heavy and italicized
is acceptable.
- If the club sport is a varsity sport at WVU, the word “club” must be included with
the sport name. For example, “men’s club soccer” or “club tennis” vs “hockey”.
- If the club sport does not want to include their club sport name on the design,
the design must meet the guidelines for schools, colleges and departments.
- Back may include a creative design that meets branding standards.
- All graphics and creative elements must be placed on the back of the shirt. Graphics should be positive in nature and cast a good light on WVU. No inappropriate language or references to drugs, alcohol, gambling or firearms are permitted.

Products for Events - 5K, Relay for Life, etc.
- Must use a WVU licensed company.
- When applicable, gold, navy, white or gray should be used. Additional colors need to be approved by WVU Brand and Trademark Licensing.
- If it is necessary to use an alternate color, WVU marks must appear in white, navy or black.
- Front needs to incorporate WVU branding and can include a design/logo for the event.
The event design/logo needs to have the events name and should include the group
identifier.
- WVU marks should be separated from the event logo if it is a 3rd party, such as the Relay for Life.
- All graphics, designs and creative elements should be positive in nature
and cast a good light on WVU. No inappropriate language or references to drugs,
alcohol, gambling or firearms are permitted. Keep in mind the shirt will
be worn outside of the event it is distributed at.
- If your product features co-branding or sponsorship, please see the Co-Branding and Sponsorship section at the bottom of the page. Please note partner logos may appear on the product but WVU marks should appear first.

Academic Student Competitions
- Must use a WVU licensed company.
- Product color should be gold, navy, white or gray.
- Front should have WVU branding plus school, college, department or program name. WVU branding should be in Helvetica Neue font and may consist of the Flying WV, Flying WV + signature (stylized West Virginia University), or “WVU”. Verbiage should be placed below the Flying WV or to the right of the logo.
- Back may include a creative design that meets branding standards.
- All graphics and creative elements must be placed on the back of the shirt. Graphics should be positive in nature and cast a good light on WVU. No inappropriate language or references to drugs, alcohol, gambling or firearms are permitted.

Co-branding and Sponsorships
- If you plan to have sponsors for an event and are going to use their logo to acknowledge them, you must receive co-branding approval. All sponsorship and third-party logos must be approved. Before promising sponsorships, please check with the Brand and Trademark Licensing office.
- Co-branding and sponsorships may not conflict with University sponsors.
- Sponsorship and third-party logos cannot appear on the product if the product is
being sold.
- If sponsorship logos will be on apparel, sponsorship logos need to be
placed on the sleeve.
- If there are three or more sponsors, logos may appear on the back, but no WVU branding is permitted along with the sponsor logos, unless a WVU department is a sponsor. Sponsors should be in alphabetical order unless placement is based on level of sponsorship. If a WVU program is a sponsor, WVU logo should appear at the top, unless it isn’t appropriate based on sponsorship level.
