Jamie Moore

Jamie has been dedicated to the gold and blue for over 70 years. Born and raised in West Virginia, this traveling Mountaineer has seen many bowl games over the years with his family of fellow WVU fans (including a cheerleader, a Mountaineer mascot and the wife of a Mountaineer). Jamie has also grown a massive collection of WVU memorabilia and gear that he shows off every chance he gets.

f I could relive a Mountaineer moment it would be between two. One was at the 1998 Insight Dot Com Bowl in Tuscan, Arizona when the Mountaineer mascot, Brandon Flower, proposed to my daughter. What is your favorite Mountaineer game you attended?

The WVU vs. Louisville game on October 15th, 2005. Earlier in the month, my father suffered a severe stroke. Fortunately, he survived but would have some tough months of recovery in front of him. I remember telling him I didn’t want to attend the next WVU football home game, but he convinced me to go. The game will go down as one of the most memorable in WVU football history with the Mountaineers edging Louisville in 3OT. The Pat White era had begun, and I couldn’t wait to go home and talk to my dad about the game and #5.

In one word describe what being a Mountaineer means to you?

Family. Not only those who you are related to, but how other Mountaineer fans become family.

Share one Mountaineer fun fact about you.

I worked as an unpaid intern for the West Virginia University Sports Communication Department in 1999.

Who is your favorite Mountaineer player (past or present)?

Pat White. Only college football quarterback to win four straight bowl games, including the Sugar and Fiesta Bowls. He’s not only one of the greatest players in WVU history, but he’s one of the best college football players of all time.

If you could go back and relive any Mountaineer moment, what would it be?

October 22, 2003, when West Virginia beat #3 Virginia Tech 28-7. It was such an incredible night, and the crowd was insane from beginning to end. Seeing Quincy Wilson gash Tech for 178 yards and our defense shut the Hokies down all game was so satisfying.

If you attended a University, what school, what was your major and when did you graduate ?

University of Dayton. Bachelor of Arts in Communication (Public Relations). Graduated in 2000.

My first Mountaineer memory is…

When I was 9 years old, I remember walking into the house after a game of back yard football with some of my friends. I can remember hearing my father’s voice hit peak level a few times while I was outside, but I didn’t know what was causing him to get so worked. I ventured into the family room and saw the television, the graphic on the TV said: West Virginia 31 Pitt 10. The date was September 24th, 1988, and at the time we were living in Valparaiso, Indiana. This wasn’t the first time I remember my dad watching the Mountaineers, but for some reason that day I started to get a real sense of how much he cared about West Virginia University and its athletic teams. From that day forward, I was hooked.

My white Nike Dri-Fit hat and my Cutter and Buck navy 1/4 zip jacket.

Share one Mountaineer fun fact about you.

My now favorite son-in-law spent 6 months building a Lego Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium. So in return, I’m leaving him my prized “Major Harris sweatshirt” since he was also a quarterback in college. It’s already in my will!

Who is your favorite Mountaineer player (past or present)?

None other than the college football hall of famer, The Maj (Major Harris) of course! I loved watching him play and almost leading WVU to its first national championship.

If you could go back and relive any Mountaineer moment, what would it be?

WVU’s win over the University of Louisville in football in 2005 after 3 Overtimes. It was a night game and Pat White went in in the 4th quarter. It was about 3AM when we finally got home. Not one person left the stadium until that game was over, so we could see our Mountaineers pull through!

If you attended a University, what school, what was your major and when did you graduate?

I received my Bachelor of Arts from Marshall University in Elementary and Special Education. I earned my Master of Arts in Special Education through WVU, as well as, my Doctor of Education degree in Educational Psychology and Special Education in 1978. I also earned my Education Specialist degree from Loyola University, for Special Education with Learning and Behavioral Disorders.

My first Mountaineer memory is…

The first mountaineer game that I ever attended was a homecoming football game at the original mountaineer field. I remember dressing up to go! Everyone was dressed up, wearing heels and gloves, and big chrysanthemums!

Waynesburg, PA

What is the biggest "thing or event" you have missed in order to watch a WVU game?

My family and I missed numerous Thanksgivings over the years because of the Backyard Brawl when WVU was in the Big East. It didn’t matter if it was in Pittsburgh or in Morgantown. That was the Thanksgiving plan and that game took top priority over the Thanksgiving meal.

What is your favorite piece if WVU gear to wear when you are watching the Mountaineers?

I wear a simple silver football on a simple silver chain that says BELIEVE! It is always with me!
